Michael Jay Plata selected to 2020 New Jersey Super Lawyers

Michael Jay Plata has been selected for inclusion in the 2020 edition of the New Jersey Super Lawyers published by Thomson Reuters.  The Super Lawyers selection process comprises hundreds of thousands of statewide or regional surveys supplemented by a comprehensive examination of 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Only 5 percent of the total lawyers in the state are selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers.

Michael Jay Plata joins Rutgers Law School Community and Transactional Lawyering Clinic

Michael Jay Plata has joined Rutgers Law School Community and Transactional Lawyering Clinic as a Practitioner-in-Residence for the fall 2019 semester.  While with the clinic, Michael will be teaching and supervising law students representing nonprofit corporations and will primarily be assisting with having these organizations obtain their tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service.

Michael Jay Plata appointed to NJSBA’s Amicus Committee and New Jersey Lawyer Editorial Board

On May 15, 2019, Michael Jay Plata was appointed to the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Amicus committee and New Jersey Lawyer Editorial Board Standing Committee.

Bergen Magazine recognizes Michael Jay Plata

Bergen Magazine has recognized Michael Jay Plata as “Bergen County’s Top Lawyers for 2018” for commercial litigation.  According to the magazine, the list is compiled by fellow attorneys asked to select peers considered best within their practice area and to whom they would seek out for particular legal needs.  The list is included in the magazine’s November 2018 issue.

 

Community Work

Michael Jay Plata participates in a presentation about Wills, Trusts & Estates at Verona church

The Essex County Surrogate Court invited the Rutgers Law School Community and Transactional Lawyering Clinic to a conversation about wills, trusts and estates at Saint James AME Church in Verona, NJ.  Michael Jay Plata participated on behalf of the clinic along with Clinical Professor Charles Auffant and several law students.  The presentation occurred on September 14, 2019, and was free to the public.

Plata Law Group LLC sponsors Boys to Leaders Foundation

Plata Law Group LLC proudly sponsored the Boys to Leaders Foundation’s 3rd Annual Recognition Dinner on July 10, 2019.  Michael Jay Plata is a Director of the foundation, which seeks to empower, motivate, and inspire young Latino men between the ages of 13 and 21 by providing leadership training, educational programs, and positive personal and professional development.

Michael Jay Plata participates in presentation for nonprofit leaders

On June 11, 2019, Michael Jay Plata presented on a panel entitled, “Creating Optimal Outcomes in Security and Finance for Non-profits” at Benderson LLP, Fairfield, NJ office.  Michael presented on legal issues involving cybersecurity and privacy law.  The seminar was free to all attendees.
